  Disaster Management Support

Remote sensing and GIS provide a powerful tool for development of an effective support system for Disaster Management. A suitable database can facilitate preparedness, mapping, monitoring and damage assessment of natural disasters and provide input for planning, preparedness and mitigation of natural disasters.

NST recognises that such strategies require the use and incorporation of a variety of ground-survey data - geophysical survey, seismic surveys, ground terrain surveys etc. A good GIS database design can enable this.

Further, inclusion of cadastral maps is also important for such applications and NST can bring in synergy between different layers in the GIS.

Some of the application areas that NST can undertake using remote sensing and GIS are as listed below

. DEM Modelling for Vulnerability Analysis

. Flood mapping and Risk Analysis,

. Drought assessment using satellite images

. Back-end GIS for Disaster Management Support

. Seismic Zonation mapping

. Landslides zonation / hazard mapping

These applications would assist in disaster and quick emergency response for rehabilitation, and relief works.
